Big film teams celebrate big. So many world, European and German premieres were celebrated in 2023.
The films of Taiwanese American artist Shu Lea Cheang alternate between queer cinema, science fiction, pornography, and a networked scenario of installation and performance. As part of a cooperation with Museum Brandhorst, the Filmfest is dedicating a tribute to this genre-crossing artist.
FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is honoring actress Barbara Sukowa with the CineMerit Award for her service to cinema. The award ceremony will feature a screening of her latest film, DALÍLAND, in which she portrays Gala Éluard Dalí, the wife of the famous painter.
Jessica Hausner’s strict adherence to style and her clever play with genre elements make her one of Austria’s most notable directors. FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is dedicating a retrospective to her and is screening her latest film, CLUB ZERO, in its German premiere.
